Essay in Assimilation: Lifestyle and Mrs. Islam

Danielle Johnson Examination #1 Issue #1.

In the book " Brick Lane” there is a specific conversation among Chanu and Mrs. Azad that I believe demonstrates the different views of assimilation. Assimilation is taking on the values, beliefs, language, traditions, organizations, history, and memories of the dominant group. (Class notes) In my personal opinion when separate groups assimilate that they basically modify who they are to either fit in with society or higher time is actually something that they choose. Assimilation also has related to how a selected group might take on the cultural characteristics of another group which causes those to lose their particular true social Identity. Healey (2014, p. 42) implies that " As culture undergoes compression, differences amongst groups decrease”. In this conversation Chanu commences saying just how " behind every immigrants success generally there lies a deeper tragedy”. (Ali, 2008) When Mrs. Azad requires him to clarify this tragedy he talks about it with his views about how exactly he considers there is a clash between his culture plus the Western beliefs. Chanu is additionally worried about keeping one's identification and children not knowing who they are. While on the other hand Mrs. Azad feels the exact contrary and does not head assimilation or be westernized. When selected groups absorb they may tend to lose the true cultural id and the traditions that tradition may possess. I think that In terms of keeping hold of the identity it may depend on just how badly you want to keep it, whether it's from a feeling of pride or any other identical feelings. This stems in the conversation and just how Chanu does not want to get rid of his personality and in a means he resistant to assimilating into the Western beliefs and morals. He is prideful of his achievements and where he originates from. I think that some distinct groups or ethnic groupings like to hold onto their traditions and customs because gowns what provides them their identity. In the current society persons begin to drop some of their culture and customs because they allow themselves to become " Americanized”, and in addition they slowly start to assimilate. Which in return triggers them to modify their thinking about issues, how they costume, or even the actual may claim. When teams assimilate 2 weeks . process and it is something that only doesn't happen overnight, but I do believe it's a decision. I think that Mrs. Azad has already dropped parts of her culture just by the way the girl responds to Chanu's assertions. In regards to both these styles the landscapes in the conversation Chanu is definitely the one who begins by saying that immigrants encounter tragedy. His views on persons assimilating and children being unsure of where offered from is essential to him. He would like his kid to develop up in which he and Nazneen came from certainly not in London as they doesn't need him to get westernized. Society today and ethnic teams may also go through the same way Chanu does. I realize from knowledge that certain people do not wish to become " Americanized". People back ground and traditions are merely as crucial wherever they go as to where they kept. A friend I've is totally Italian great family came here via Italy. His parents and also grandparents is not going to speak in English and he features told me that they can do not proper care to. Households all across the world may well feel they should preserve all their culture even though they may think if that they start to assimilate they will suffer the loss. Families may want to uphold certain traditions possibly and have youngsters marry in the same lifestyle keeping all of them from assimilating. Which is what I think in the chat is how Chanu seems. In Bangladesh he was privileged for his scholar successes, but it doesn't mean as much in London. Mrs. Azad on the other hand has opinions that are a little different. The lady still areas her lifestyle but says that " When she has in Bangladesh she has on the proper Sari and addresses...
